Anastasia Beverly Hills just released their DipBrow Gel and the beauty community is going crazy especially in Canada as another holy grail product comes onto the scene. You must know by now that Anastasia Beverly Hills is known for their eyebrow products. I’ve been doing a few reviews on Anastasia Beverly Hills including the Brow Definer and some of their eyeshadow palettes such as the new Riviera and Soft Glam.
The great thing about Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow products is that they are always in the same shade ranges. No matter which product you choose, the colours are all the same so you can’t get it wrong.
Anastasia Beverly Hills sells a product called DipBrow which is a pomade pot of product that is applied to the brows with an angled brush. This takes a lot of time to apply and I think I gave up on using this product entirely last year. Who has the time to spend in the mirror drawing on their eyebrows each day if you don’t have to?
When the Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel came out I was so happy – I thought it was going to be my ideal holy grail product. The DipBrow Gel is very similar to other eyebrow mascara applicator products but most like the Benefit “Gimme Brow” (read the review here)
This is where a new product from Anastasia Beverly Hills comes in – they were smart enough to put their famous DipBrow in a tube with a spoolie on the end for easy application. They also thinned out the pomade to make it easy to apply to the brows with the brush which is a lot easier than a pot and a brush.
Continue reading my experience with the DipBrow Gel below, I didn’t end up liking this product as much as I thought I would. I actually ended up returning it! Read below to find out the nuances about why the DipBrow Gel isn’t as great as I thought it would.
How to Apply the DipBrow Gel
As I mentioned above, the formulation of the DipBrow Gel has thinned out greatly than the pomade.
For this reason, the mascara spoolie applicator works to coat the eyebrows so that you get a smoothness to the direction that your brows are. However, I find that since the formula is a bit watery, sometimes I’ll end up with clumps at different points in my eyebrow depending on how I angle the brush.
In order to combat the clumps, I’ll first outline my eyebrows with the Benefit “Precisely, My Brow Pencil” and get the fine hairs close to the nose and to help shape the arch. I also had to take a clear brow gel and smooth out the eyebrows so the DipBrow Gel wouldn’t clump up.
DipBrow Gel Colours and Swatches
The DipBrow Gel Colours are the same ones as the rest of the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products. They are:
Blonde, Taupe, Caramel, Soft Brown, Chocolate, Dark Brown, Auburn, Medium Brown, Ebony, Ash Brown, Granite
The mini size doesn’t come in all of those colours it only comes in:
Taupe, Soft Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Ebony.
Here are all of the swatches so you can pick which colour would be suit your eyebrows:
Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel vs. Benefit Gimme Brow
I mentioned above that the DipBrow Gel compares to Benefits Gimme Brow. I like the Gimme Brow so much more. Benefit’s Gimme Brow comes in a smaller tube and the brush tip at the end is angled a bit more. I also like the formula of Gimme Brow because it isn’t as watery as the DipBrow Gel. In fact, I tend to want to wait until Gimme Brow dries out a bit more before using the wand because I like when the formula is a bit drier.
Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel vs. Glossier Boy Brow
Many of you have heard about Glossier’s Boy Brow and if you haven’t then you may be missing out. The Glossier Boy Brow (click to read my “No Makeup Makeup” post), is also very similar to Benefit’s Gimme brow. If you compare the DipBrow Gel to Boy Brow, I will say that Boy Brow when you first get it is also very runny and is heavy on the liquid.
After Boy Brow has dried out a bit, I do start liking the formula which is similar to what I thought about the Benefit Gimme Brow.
In terms of what I like more, I still like the Glossier Boy Brow better than the Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Gel because of the applicator.
Now that you know all about the DipBrow Gel – it’s time to be completely honest with you all. I tried to like this product, I wanted it to replace everything eyebrow mascara that I have. However, the formula is so watery that it ended up making my eyebrows look muddy. The strands of hair didn’t fall nicely into place as I thought they would.
I ended up returning this product everyone. I will stick with my Benefit Gimme brow and that will be my go to above all other eyebrow mascaras.
