Met Gala 2018 Makeup Looks

Met Gala 2018 Makeup Looks

Every year, on the first Monday in May, there is an extravagant ball put on by the Metropolitan Museum of Arts put on by Anna Wintour.

This year, the theme is “Heavenly Bodies” a mix between “Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”.  According to Vogue (since this is Anna Wintour’s event), there was a controversy surrounding the theme.  The theme was designed around between fashion and the works of religious art in the museum itself.  The met Gala did receive an official stamp from the Vatican to include 50 fashion pieces from the Vatican itself, on loan.

The idea behind the Met Gala 2018 theme surrounded fashion that is tied to a religious inspiration.  Think Versace, Chanel or Dolce and Gabanna who focus on ethereal themes with gold tones and ornamental frills.

We know that the Met Gala is one of Fashion’s biggest nights.  One where celebrities and socialites go big or…NOTHING.  Many choose to do the Met Gala more abstract and of modern looks versus a literal interpretation of the theme.

This year, Rihanna chose to wear an actual Pope robe and hat encrusted with jewels.  A bold look but definitely was in line with theme of the evening including glitz and glamour.

I want to focus on the Met Gala 2018 makeup looks and understand what the trends of the Met Ball are all about for 2018.

However, you’ll see that many celebrities crossed both trends with both nude lips and dark eyeliner for their Met Ball makeup in 2018.

Here are my top picks for Met Gala 2018 Makeup::

Theme: Black Winged Liner

In accordance with the theme “Heavenly Bodies”, many celebrities went a simple classic approach which focused on the eyes.  The heavy black winged liner took center stage as many celebs hit the red carpet in their stunning gowns.

A few of the celebrities that took part in the winged liner look were:

Met Gala 2018 Makeup Theme: Nude Lips

Nude lips were EVERYWHERE for makeup at the Met Gala 2018.  This proves that nude lips are here to stay.  Matte, glossy or creamy – nude lips are in.  The new nude is something a little more warm and on the brown and pink tones.

Notable celebrities that rocked the nude lip trend expertly were:

Met Gala 2018 Makeup Theme: Bold Vampy Lips

As I mentioned above, either you take the literal meaning of the Met Gala 2018 or you make it your own.  Some of these celebrities really went for it with bold red and burgundy tones lips, following the Met Gala 2018 theme of “Heavenly Bodies” and came through with this strong goddess feel.

A few celebrities who rocked the bold vampy lip were:

That sums it up, the top three makeup looks on the Met Gala 2018 red carpet were: 1. Black Winged Liner 2. Nude Lips 3. Bold Vampy Lips

Let me know which trend you prefer and why!
